 ST.LOUIS CARPENTERS UNION LEADER REMOVED FROM OFFICE,INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY

St. Louis Carpenter's Union leader removed from office, investigation underway 

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - There’s a shakeup and an internal investigation underway at the St. Louis Carpenter’s Union as sources tell KMOX that Executive General Albert Bond has been removed from his position.

He's been removed by the International Carpenter's Union as representatives are in town this week. The St. Louis union will be under the wing of the Chicago branch in the short term.

There's an internal investigation underway into Bond's activities as the leader in St. Louis. In September 2015 he was appointed to the top executive position. Previously, he served as assistant executive secretary-treasure and business representative/organizer since 1999.

KMOX knocked on Bond's office door Tuesday morning and was asked to leave with no comment from the union.

Bond graduated from Affton High School in St. Louis County in 1977 and began his career as a carpenter apprentice in 1983. He was elected to the St. Louis Labor Council in 1986 and spent 11 years as the president of Carpenters Local 5.

ST LOUIS CARPENTERS UNION TOP EXECUTIVE OUSTED

Leader of one of region largest union plagued by support of failed candidates, unpopular ballot initiatives in St. Louis

The Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the St. Louis-Kansas City Carpenters Regional Council Albert Bond has been ousted from leadership, the St. Louis Observer has learned. His departure from STLKCCRC is not believed to be voluntary.

Bond’s leadership of STLKCCRC since September 2015 has been tumultuous, marked by unfruitful alliances with Rex Sinquefield-backed initiatives like the proposed “Better Together” merger of St. Louis City and St. Louis County and the failed privatization efforts of St. Louis Lambert International Airport, as well as backing another unsuccessful mayoral campaign for Board of Aldermen President Lewis Reed and providing political and financial support to convicted felon and former County Executive Steve Stenger.

The overlap between STLKCCRC and Sinquefield cannot be overstated, as both not only engage in similar ballot initiatives but further employ the same lobbyists, per the Missouri Ethics Commission

Following Bond’s departure, the leadership council of the Carpenters Union is still comprised solely of white men.

Messages were left with both the local STLKCCRC office and with the United Brotherhood of Carpenters international headquarters in Washington, D.C., but no staff could be reached for comment. It is unclear what the Union’s next steps will be to replace Bond.
