NJEA funds new Norcross-linked group with $1.25M donation
The New Jersey Education Association has donated more than $1 million to
a new independent expenditure group with close ties to South Jersey
Democratic power broker George Norcross, the clearest indication yet of
rapprochement between Norcross and the state’s largest teachers union.
The group, American Democratic Majority, was founded in December 2020 and in January 2021 took in its only significant reported donation: $1.25 million from Garden State Forward, the super PAC of the NJEA, according to filings with the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission.
American Democratic Majority has clear ties to Norcross, with the names of his political allies gracing its paperwork: Norcross’ attorney, Bill Tambussi, is listed as the group’s designated agent, and former Assemblymember Patricia Egan Jones, Camden County’s director of outreach for veterans affairs, is its treasurer. Former Assembly member Jack Conners and political consultants Sean Kennedy and Donna Robinson Taylor are also listed.
DESPITE DISCLOSURE REPORTS, GROUP PROMOTING ALLEGED ‘PHANTOM CANDIDATES’ STILL SHROUDED IN MYSTERY
A mysterious political nonprofit that’s trying to draw conservative voters to alleged “phantom candidates” in South Jersey revealed nothing about its funding in a new report filed with the state’s campaign finance watchdog.
Meanwhile, another new political nonprofit that’s airing ads attacking Republicans over abortion raised $2.5 million — all from the Carpenters Union.
The groups, which registered with the Election Law Enforcement Commission late in the election cycle, both have ties to South Jersey Democrats.
