The Eastern Atlantic Council of Carpenters has been in continuous
conversation with stakeholders of both the public and private sectors
including Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney regarding the recent COVID-19
(Novel Cornonavirus) situation. After a discussion with the Mayor’s
office, we must clarify that the recent announcement made by Mayor
Kenney stating the closing of all non-essential businesses DOES NOT
include the construction industry. Our members are ready and willing to
do their part to keep the economy moving forward and perform the
skilled work necessary at this time. Our Council is proud to have
members that already perform safe and productive work, but who are also
aware of what additional safety requirements are necessary in these
pressing times.
Thank you to all the Owners, General Contractors, Subcontractors, and Local Leaders who have also taken the proper steps to make sure our industry if pushing forward as safely as possible.

Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak announced that he ordered all of the state’s gambling operations and all nonessential businesses to be shut down by today.

I am trying to make sense of everything that is taking place. From my understanding the majority of carpenters union was laid off today in Philadelphia. This being the case is there still a need for union representation at this point? A union representative can absolutely not perform their job from home. Dues going to the hall will substantially decrease to zero. Since this is the case to preserve our union, so called union representatives should be laid off immediately. If they try to tell us now they are still representing us, they need to go to jail. With all fairness, making their large salaries, they should have 12 month emergency fund saved up. This is without a doubt, the ethical and financial move to make immediately!
This is possibly what is needed to break the backs.

No one in politics anywhere in SJ is under any illusions about GNIII and his self serving activities. He’s been able to do what has for over 30 years because he is smart, out works his opponents, thinks strategically, executes his plans, knows where the line is, and most importantly has outlasted his competitors. He, Frank, and Steve are friends, and mutual supporters of one another. GNIII and Frank always had their eye on Philly, each with their own agenda, but that’s why they worked together so long to get rid of Ed SR. Frank hated Ed because Ed was everything Frank wasn’t, which in short was successful, whereas Frank was a failure in all regards, except in one; internal UBC politics, that’s what Frank focused on vs. Ed SR. who focused on the members. After Frank and George had peaked in Southern Jersey there was only one place to go and that was across the river to Philly, and so began their campaign to take out there one road block, Ed Coryell Sr. GNIII and Frank then collaborated with Doc and it started with the Convention Center lockout, followed by their support of Jim Kenney for Mayor. The rest is history.
Will GNIII get jammed up?? Most likely not. Will Frank, Capelli, and Doug get jammed up? Yes they most likely will, but their crimes are related to being greedy stupid slobs. A very good idea. I would suggest the following revisions: Ask your President to submit a request to the Council for the credit card statements or for what ever other council documents you want to see. Even better, at the next regular meeting ask your delegate if he reviewed the Council Bills which include the credit card bills, before he voted to approve them being paid. He’ll say something like “they just read the total amounts prior to approval”. Then you ask him how does he know that the credit card purchases were compliant with the law if he never saw the statement. Then tell him he needs to put a request in for the statements, all the statements going back to our merger with KML. Anyone who makes a request for copies of the council credit cards will make these guys clown shit in their shorts!!! Last suggestion: any member can submit a written request to see all the financial records used to prepare all the reports to the DOL, the LM1, 2, and 3, organized by Section and type of financial record. In that request you can also ask where the MUP finds are located and what they were used for. This would constitute another request that would have Council Mgt looking for a new case of depends...... Happy hunting!!!!
If you want to see the reps credit card receipts, direct your delegates to make a motion at the next Regional Council meeting. The motion should be specific that the receipts/statements be included in the minutes of the quarterly Regional Council meeting. It would work best to run this as a motion on the floor at your local mtg first, directing your delegates to make the motion at the Council mtg. It would also be a good idea to contact as many locals/delegates as possible before the Council mtg to build a coalition, as this will not be a pushover vote. Don't forget, all the chickenshit rep/delegates will be voting against it. Also ask for a standing roll call vote so that the President cannot just rule in favor of the neighs from a voice vote.
