THE BLOOM FIRM WINS RELEASE OF TELEPHONE RECORDS IN A LAWSUIT AGAINST A MAJOR UNION

Alan Goldberg successfully argued for the release of telephone records in Michael McCarron’s lawsuit against the Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters.  Due to stringent legal restrictions placed upon the release of telephone records, it is extremely difficult for a requesting party to convince a judge to release such records.  Alan's victory comes as a result of his successful showing of the existence of a relationship between the requested telephone records and Mr. McCarron's claim that his right to free speech was obstructed.

Karen Friedman, executive vice president and policy director at the nonprofit Pension Rights Center in Washington, is highly critical of the new law while acknowledging that pension reforms are needed. “We are not saying don’t fix multiemployer [plans],” Friedman said. But an act that allows plans to cut retiree pensions is “such a departure from current law,” she said. “It’s just such a buzz saw on retiree pensions.
