According to Forde’s attorney, Dino Lombardi, Forde agreed to forfeit
the lions share of one of his retirement accounts, which has a value of
nearly $800,000.
Nine years after Michael Forde admitted to his role in a bribery
scheme that cheated his union’s pension funds of millions of dollars,
he’s agreed to give up part of his pension.
In a federal civil court filing this week, the New York City District
Council of Carpenters’ pension and benefit funds acknowledged that it
received payments from former executive-secretary treasurer Michael
Forde, who was sentenced to 11 years in federal prison back in 2010.
Though the court approved a $15.3 million judgement against Forde and
the former president of Local 157, John Greaney, back in April, the
union subsequently accepted lower amounts from both, court documents
show. According to Forde’s attorney, Dino Lombardi, Forde agreed to
forfeit the lionshare of one of his retirement accounts, which has a
value of nearly $800,000. He also continues to make regular payments on
restitution stemming from his criminal conviction.

As 2020 arrives, it’s time for retirees to get involved in leading change to the UBC for three primary reasons: One, you can’t be retaliated against for taking action, two, you have standing as members to take action provided your in good standing with the payment of your dues, three, if you want to preserve your pension benefits as they are, you’ll need to get involved in the effort to replace McCarron and Co. Point no. three is the most important for you retirees, because if nothing happens market share will continue to be lost which equals a loss in contributions to the Pension Fund followed by the inevitable benefit reductions. You need to get involved for no other reason than to protect your Pension!!!

Given the fact the multiple employer act was not only written by mccarron and attorneys .... You need to look at the recent lawsuits about how exactly the pensions were reduced even with a NO vote by the majority of members that voted on it.

But the way the act is written and the way the union has it rigged... The loophole ...even though it got 1100 no votes... It stillll went into effect because of ballot quorums.

Per the previous post, under the MEPRA signed into law in 2014, Pension Funds in the Red Zone can submit an application to the Treasury Dept requesting to reduce benefits, if the application complies with the MEPRA Act then the request is approved, next step is the Vote by the fund participants to approve or reject the proposed reductions in benefit payments. Here’s the catch on the Vote; the only ballots counted are the ones sent back, so if there are 3,000 Fund participants and only six ballots are returned and they are yes Votes guess what? The proposed reductions get approved!!! But what about the other 2,994 participants? Doesn’t matter, they only count the returned ballots. Now what Union member would promote and support MEPRA? Those Union members who aren’t subject to its negative consequences that’s who, such as Doug McCarron and Company!!! They don’t need a local Pension because they a) have been paid millions of dollars by YOU in wages, and b) are covered by an International Pension Fund, plus they also have access to other forms of retirement compensation. What is good for us is not good for them. We are living the life outlined in the Animal Farm book; we do all the work in the field and the pigs get to live in the house and enjoy all the fruits from our labor.
