In this business a 2 year apprentice is of more value than a 20 year residential carp. Especially a man that is already past the absorbing what u learn age. I personally feel all they are doing is paying more for an apprentice. In this business experience is everything so I’d take the two year apprentice whos at the ripe age of absorbing what he sees any day than a 30 year old handyman who’s never made it to the pinochle of his trade because he never had the drive or competitiveness of a union carpenter. It’s a big mistake thinking anyone can do what we do because we can do learn office job long before an office worker can learn what we do and that’s being overlooked.
They said: Don’t worry it’s not going to impact you, it’s just a tool to go after residential work we can’t compete on anymore because our wages and fringes are too high... ask the Journeymen who just got fired to make room for low pay “provisional” carpenters how this program effects them and their families.
They’ll say: “This is just one company taking advantage of a program meant to create new work opportunities for our Council. You’ll be fine.....”
What this provisional Carpenter program is is exactly what every informed member feared; a new way to benefit the contractor who will collect dues off these poor provisional members while full rate journeyman get displaced!!! BELIEVE IT, YOUR NEXT!!!! This program is coming to Philadelphia. Oh wait it’s already here.....check your Council Bylaws and your new Agreements!!!
This is akin to McCarron’s other market share destroying idea, which was adding language to each Agreement wherever he could that allowed signatory GC’s to sublet covered work to non-signatory subcontractors. He intentionally destroyed his own union base of contractors who employed most members!!! Why would he do that?? Because that’s what the GC’s wanted so that’s what they got!!!
What’s next?? Well being that construction operates on competitive low bid prices any other contractor who competes with Jacobson is going to want, and is entitled to receive the ability to use discount members. Any signatory contractor looking to bid work against Jacobson is going to be calling Geiger to tell him (not ask) that they will be using provisional members and Geiger will say “that’s fantastic it’s a great program, Jacobson loves it!! But just remember you still have to take dues assessments out each provisional members check ok?? Not a problem Joe, you’ll get your cut....”

Yes Brother long time Union Representative Ron Mcleod made a big announcement that he was nominating the slate for the Carpenters Union Local 258. The President Romeo Carsello laid out the rules for nominations of Carpenters Union Local 158 and stated a seconded was not required and you can nominate yourself. The Union hired a 3rd party company by the name of Elections USA, Inc to run the Local 158 nominations not the Local 258 nominations
I believe SBDigital was hired to handle the teleconference delegate nominating process. Elections USA was hired to conduct the ballot by mail process. Vote for anyone not running on a pro Council Ticket and wait till results are announced to file grievances regarding the flawed process; first internally, then externally with the DOL.

Do you think they really want to do more work and be delegates? No, but they say they have to keep this thing going and make sure that the 258 delegate slate and friends keep all the good jobs. It is a really sad system that they have purposely put in place that will payoff short-term and win them the 258 election but it is going down slowly. These guys will be ok because they have stolen so many of our dollars.
Im going to challenge the existence of the new MAP dues program because it was illegal to create it with out the consent of the members per the UBCJA Constitution and the LMRDA.
