The UBC has been converted into a Temp Labor Agency because we do not collectively bargain, we don’t elect our Representatives, we don’t have a binding Vote on new Agreements, etc., etc. Thus we are no different than those who work for Labor Ready. Soon you will see Provisional Carpenters on the job working for 80% of the rate, then that will be 75% with nothing going to the Pension Fund. That’s also part of their strategy to reduce the funding status of the Pension Fund down to the Red zone so they can impose a Fund “Recovery” plan which will include a merger of the funds in NJ and or a conversion to a Defined Contribution plan. Note on the Philly Pension Fund, according to the last statement I received the fund was down 5% to 80% funded, as it drops that’s when they can start making changes; first of which will be the elimination of the double bubble.
